Open Letter to the girl on the T wearing flip flops

20120224-100537.jpgDear Girl I saw on the T platform yesterday wearing flip flops,

What are you thinking?! I know it has been an unseasonably warm winter- but hello! We are still in Boston, and it is still February. Have you completely lost your brain? Did you wake up this morning and forget to look at the weather- or your calendar? How are you not freezing cold right now? Or completely embarrassed? Or even if you are not- do you not own shoes?

Are you on your way to work? Do you think your “business casual” outfit of a short flowy jersey skirt, bare legs, pea-coat and flip flops is attractive? Or professional? What would your mother say? Is this some walk of shame from Florida that you are almost home from?

Maybe you are one of those people who seem to think that flip flops are an acceptable form of footwear. Let me inform you: they aren’t. Especially in the WINTER! Flip flops should only be worn when it is 80+ degrees, sunny, and you are at least 150 ft from a body of water. And last time I checked- it is February, 50 degrees and cloudy.

I’m sorry I was not able to snap a picture of you on my phone, I was to busy picking up my jaw after it dropped open watching you from across the tracks- and this was pre-coffee so my reflexes were off. You know I really don’t need such heinous visuals this early in the morning.

I bet you are one of those girls who also find it acceptable to wear uggs with leggings and a sorority sweatshirt in July. What has society come to? I 100% blame YOU as the reason Boston was listed as the no. 1 most unfashionable city.

I really recommend that you and your friend (who I saw crossing Mass Ave the other night BAREFOOT and without a coat ) get together and go shoe shopping together- or better yet- hire a stylist- because you both need some serious help.

While Fashion may not be your passion, remember that the rest of us have to look at you…

  1. That was a very hurtful post

  2. With all the great shopping on Newbury Street and Copley Place, I am shocked to know that Boston tops the “most unfashionable city” list. What an ignominious distinction! And ugh – how I hate girls in UGGS in any season.
