Where has Erika been? You might remember that last week I entered a contest to attend the 5th annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. It turns out my entry was their favorite and this past weekend Nick and I found ourselves traveling to New York for the charming event. Here is a glimpse into the experience:
The day started with a Ferry ride to Liberty State Park from downtown Manhattan. The views of the skyline and the Statue of Liberty were breathtaking- and it certainly helped that we had PERFECT weather!
The scene on the other side of the water was like an elaborate scene out of Gossip Girl. I kept imagining Blair and Serena scheming and running around in their most ridiculous hats followed by Nate and Chuck in linen morning suits. While we didn’t have professional TV wardrobes- I think all of the young New Yorkers did an amazing job in dressing in their finest urban garden party outfits!
Polo is an amazing spectator sport. After watching Rachel Zoe kick off the event rolling out the ceremonial first ball, we were treated to four chukkers (rounds) of amazing play. We cheered on both teams- not particularly caring who won. It was a close match until the end, but eventually, team Black Watch defeated Nespresso 9-7.
After it was over we were able to meet up with the BG team and designer Wes Gordon! All of them were SO NICE, and of course, amazingly dressed! We spent the rest of the afternoon admiring the social scene, sitting under Veuve Cliquot umbrellas, and sipping champagne.
Amazingly, Wes and I also got the opportunity to meet the winning team’s captain (and the face of Ralph Lauren) Nacho Figueras! As I put my arm around him for a picture, he quickly assured me that his soaking wet shirt was dripping in “not sweat! Champagne!” As we left he added a big congratulations to me for winning the contest; no, Nacho, congratulations to YOU for being the reigning king over such a spectacular day.
If you can’t get enough of these pictures, Polyvore.com has created a featured collection about the event! You can also create your own set using pictures from the day as well as outfits from Wes Gordon’s Spring Line!

Wow! That is SO cool! Congrats on the win and also for getting to have such an amazing experience…Is Rachel Zoe really as skinny as she looks? Her baby looks thicker than she does!
