It’s been a while since I’ve featured a favorite architect and today I am especially enamored with the work of Bergmeisterwolf Architekten. This northern Italian/ Austrian firm is known for their sharp lines and their peculiar ability to incorporate the natural landscape into their buildings.
There is also a play with volumes and materials- as if they started with a large square and then slowly carved out a dramatic shape by adding and subtracting different elements.
Any of these buildings would be beautiful at any site around the world, but I think they are even more striking set in their rustic surroundings. The contrast of modern and traditional creates such a strong statement.
I have actually visited this corner of the world (in the Dolomites) where Bergmeisterwolf is located and I remember the traditional architecture looking like something out of the Sound of Music- with such repetitive architectural styles any modern building stands out even more. I find it amazingly beautiful and inspiring. What are your thoughts?
